Silent reflux or laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is the reflux of stomach contents beyond the esophagus into the throat, voice box, lungs, mouth, sinuses, ears and/or nose. The term “silent reflux” is used because refluxed acid doesn’t linger in the esophagus long enough to cause heartburn.
